Buttermilk Farm specializes in compassionate and consistent care of elder horses, retired horses and those needing lay-up/rehabilitation assistance.
We raise, buy and sell well-bred, worthy, and willing western discipline performance quarter horses. We also provide sessions for learning about the horse and horsemanship.
Buttermilk Farm (1271, LLC) is a family limited liability company owned by the Lacy family of Knoxville, Tennessee. It was established in 2015 primarily as a breeding facility for performance quarter horses with an emphasis on the western discipline of “Reining”. We ceased training/boarding operations a few years ago to upgrade the facilities and concentrate on our breeding program. In late 2024 we decided to wind down our personal breeding operations and focus mainly on helping others with their older or injured horses and secondarily on teaching about horsemanship.
Explore Our ServicesOn a selective basis for qualified horses/owners, we provide informed care for aged horses whose owners want individualized, consistent, and compassionate attention to their horses such that they can be safe, carefree, and happy as possible for their remaining time. Individual stalls will be provided with clean water. Feed, supplements and medications schedules will be administered. Limited turnout and blanketing depending on the weather. Exercise, feeding and other care will be based on the owner and/or owner's vet instruction. Reports will be given periodically. Final arrangements will be made.
Same details as for an Elder horse, but with the idea that the retired horse may require planned activity, such as turn-out and exercise.
Horses requiring individualized care during a recovery period will be attended to in a peaceful environment on at least a daily basis. Owner/vet instructions will be followed.
Pastures with run-in sheds and available water may be available for complete care by the owner. No services, feed, hay or assistance would be available except upon additional charges.
For individuals or families with little or no experience with or knowledge about horses and riding, individualized instruction will provide a meaningful introductory learning experience about horses, their care and riding. This is not intended to be riding lessons, but rather a learning experience preliminary to actual lessons in riding.
We offer well-bred performance horses for sale, the most of which were raised at Buttermilk Farm and trained by knowledgeable professionals. See Gallery.
Services may be available in relation to the above such as hauling.
